Game for 3 to 4 players in 60 to 90 minutes.


Lord of the Rings TCG: Multiplayer Card Game

The goal is to have a playable LOTR TCG game in multiplayer and easy to access for neophytes (this can constitute a first base towards learning LOTR TCG afterwards).


Change of rules compared to LOTR TCG

Only 5 sites. No sanctuary. No archery phase. No roaming for minions. No move limit.
No Rule of 4 (draw maximum 4 cards in fellowship). No Rule of 9 (maximum 9 companions).

We avoid:
- the vast majority of keywords and certain terms, such as exhausted. We only keep Fierce, Damage +X and Defender +X,
- the exert/wound distinction (we only keep wound)
- Response abilities or events
- Assignment abilities or events, this phase will be reserved for the assignment of minions by the Free Peoples player
- Regroup abilities or events, this phase will be reserved for the Reconcile and the decision to move again
- texts with two or more effects
- texts with "at the start of...."
- the texts with "play ... from your draw deck or discard pile", in order to avoid the question: do I have to pay the cost of the card thus played?

It is specified in the text of the cards that the boosts of strength only last during the present fight.
Cards that are placed under characters (possession or condition), and therefore not easily visible, must only have immediate effects on placement (or a single keyword).

VP System (Victory Points). Bid VP (instead of burdens) at the start of the game.
New keyword: Help X.


Goal of the game

The game ends when:
- a Free Peoples player has reached the ralliement phase of the last site (5th site). This player wins.
- a Shadow player has reached 15 VP. This player wins.
- the time limit is reached: the player with the most VP is declared the winner.


Setup

Place X Free Peoples decks and X Shadow decks on the table, where X is the number of players.
Each player starts with 5 VP and bids a certain number of VP to choose their place.


Player placement and order

In seating order, players sit clockwisely around the table.
Starting with the first player and following the order of the players, each will choose a Shadow deck then in reverse order each player will choose a Free Peoples deck.
The first player will start as a Free Peoples player.

Reminder:
- The player to the right of the Free Peoples player is the first Shadow player, then we continue counter-clockwise.
- When the Free Peoples player has passed, the next Free Peoples player is the player to his left.



Free Peoples and Shadow packages

There are 4 different Shadow Packs, each with a different objective.
There are 4 Free Peoples packages, and 2 more are in development.
Each deck contains 30 cards.
All 5 sites are the same for all players.

List of Shadow Cards

Each player starts the game with their Noble Artifact directly in play.


On the back of each Noble Artifact:

You start the game with 5 VP.
When Frodo is killed or corrupted, if you are the first Shadow player, gain 5 VP.
When the game ends, gain X times 3 VP where X is your fellowship's site number.
